Sheffield Wednesday have appointed Gary Megson as their new manager on a three-and-a-half-year deal. The Owls sacked Alan Irvine on Thursday following a disappointing run of results in npower League One and owner Milan Mandaric has moved quickly to appoint a successor. Megson, who enjoyed two spells as a Wednesday player in the 1980s, has been out of work since his departure from Bolton in December 2009 and has previously worked under Mandaric at Leicester. "It is a club I know well. It is something I've always wanted to do and I'm delighted," Megson said. Mandaric added: "I am delighted with this appointment because Gary is a top drawer manager. "He has tremendous experience in the Championship and the Premier League and that is where Sheffield Wednesday needs to be."
