Waddle tips Owls for play-offs

Brian Laws' men finished in mid-table last term but after adding Darren Potter, Darren Purse and Tommy Miller to their ranks, Waddle sees a promotion push being on the cards. "I think Wednesday will do all right, although they need a couple of acquisitions striker-wise," he told the Star. "If they get them, there's no reason they can't push towards the play-offs." The former England international has also backed Sheffield to become a World Cup city should England be successful in their 2018 bid. With both teams in the city harbouring plans to improve their stadiums, Waddle expects the rivalry to heat up. "Wednesday are talking about getting their ground up to 50,000, United are planning for 40,000, so there'll be a very competitive edge to it if England do get the World Cup in 2018. There'll be a bit of rivalry as to who gets the games if they do come."
