Varney ban blow at Blackpool

Varney, who sits out a one-game ban after receiving his fifth booking of the season in the Boxing Day draw with Newcastle, could have played his last game for the Owls as he was due to return to parent club Derby after the Seasiders clash.[LNB]Leon Clarke replaced Varney midway through the second half against Newcastle and is expected to return to the starting line-up alongside Marcus Tudgay.[LNB]Caretaker manager Sean McAuley switched to a 4-3-3 formation on Boxing Day and could be tempted to stick with it after one of the Owls' best displays of the season.[LNB]Frank Simek and Tom Soares, on loan from Stoke, will be hoping to retain their places in the starting line-up after replacing Lewis Buxton and Sean McAlister respectively, while Etienne Esajas and Jermaine Johnson are vying for one of the three places up front.[LNB][LNB]
