Varney back with Owls

Luke Varney will go straight back into Sheffield Wednesday's squad for the home clash with Peterborough after returning on loan from Derby until the end of the season. The striker, who spent the first half of the season on loan with the Owls, may have to settle for a place on the substitutes' bench after Wednesday's two straight wins under new manager Alan Irvine. Irvine, whose side won 2-1 at Barnsley in his first game in charge last Saturday and followed it up with a similar scoreline at Blackpool in midweek, will be without winger Jermaine Johnson. Johnson was forced out of the action at Bloomfield Road with a strained hamstring and replaced by Leon Clarke, who went on to score the Owls' second goal. Clarke is expected to retain his place alongside Marcus Tudgay up front, while on-loan midfielder Tom Soares will play his last game before returning to Crystal Palace.
