Northern Ireland coach Worthington, who played alongside Sterland for the Owls in the 1980s, has emerged as one of the early favourites for the post following Laws' departure on Sunday by mutual consent.[LNB]Sterland told Press Association Sport: "Nigel's name has been shouted about a lot and he would be a great choice as new manager in my view.[LNB]"He's done well for Northern Ireland, did well at Norwich and he knows this football club very well, I think he had 10 years at Wednesday. He'd be popular with the fans and if you've got that you've got a chance.[LNB]"He had everything as a player at Sheffield Wednesday and has served his apprenticeship as manager. He would also work well with Howard Wilkinson, who bought him from Notts County back in the 80s. There's lots of respect there."[LNB]Wilkinson, a technical advisor at Hillsborough, also signed Worthington when he was in charge of Leeds in 1994. [LNB]Caretaker-manager Sean McAuley, Steve Cotterill, George Burley, Paul Hart, Darren Ferguson and Gareth Southgate have also been linked with the vacancy.[LNB][LNB]
