The highly-rated 21-year-old joined the club's youth system at the age of seven and has gone on to make 135 appearances for the Owls, scoring five goals. He has now committed to Wednesday until 2013 and manager Brian Laws said: "I am really pleased that Tommy has signed a new contract with us because he is one of our best players and is already respected around the league as a top young defender. "Tommy is a great player to work with because of his enthusiasm and will to win as well as possessing genuine talent. While he has already played a lot of games for a young player, he has plenty of development ahead of him and it is quite exciting to think what kind of player Tommy can become in the coming years." Spurr added: "I have been a Sheffield Wednesday player for as long as I can remember and I am delighted to sign a new contract with the club. The squad is probably as strong as it has ever been during my time in the first team and there is a real feeling that we can achieve things as a squad now so there was never any doubt in my mind that I wanted to sign a new contract here." "We have looked solid as a defence and I think we are still growing as a unit defensively. I am really just looking forward to getting back out there and playing for Sheffield Wednesday and hopefully secure the wins that will keep us at the top end of the table."
