Sheffield Wednesday likely to hand debuts to new duo

Sheffield Wednesday's new signings Adam Reach and Urby Emanuelson will be hoping to make their debuts for the club in the home game against Wigan.

Winger Reach, signed for an undisclosed fee from Preston, and left-sided player Emanuelson, a free agent after being released by Italian club Hellas Verona at the end of last season, are expected to be included in the squad.

Owls skipper Glenn Loovens has proved his fitness for the development squad and could be named among the substitutes after his start to the season was delayed by ankle surgery.

Head coach Carlos Carvalhal will be without suspended midfielder David Jones, who received two yellow cards in his second appearance for the club during the 1-1 draw at Brentford before the international break.

The four deadline-day signings Wigan made at the start of the month are all in line for their debuts.

Latics acquired Adam Le Fondre, Nathan Byrne, Kaiyne Woolery and Reece Burke in the latter stages of the window and they have swelled Gary Caldwell's options ahead of this trip.

Although it is two weeks since Wigan last played, Caldwell looks set to be without Reece James (ankle), Andy Kellett (knee), Kyle Knoyle (elbow) and Donervon Daniels (knee) again as their problems are longer term.

Caldwell's side have only won once this season and midfielder Jordi Gomez may be considered for his first start since returning to the DW Stadium.
