Owls wait on Kirkland

Sheffield Wednesday boss Stuart Gray is hopeful goalkeeper Chris Kirkland will be available to face QPR.

Kirkland has missed the Owls' last three matches with a calf injury but could return to contention for Tuesday's clash.

Defender Joe Mattock is back in training following a spell on the sidelines with a thigh injury and could play some part.

Young forward Caolan Lavery is likely to keep his place in the starting line-up after scoring twice against Birmingham last time out, while Benik Afobe, Jermaine Johnson, Giles Coke and Liam Palmer are among those pushing for recalls.

QPR have new injury worries over four players ahead of the trip.

Saturday's 3-0 win over Yeovil came at a cost with goalkeeper Rob Green suffering suspected cracked ribs and midfielders Armand Traore and Jermaine Jenas picking up hamstring injuries.

All three are set to miss out at Hillsborough while two-goal Ravel Morrison needs a fitness check after feeling a groin problem late on.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto could miss out again with the knock he suffered at Brighton last Tuesday while fellow full-back Danny Simpson (back), midfielder Alejandro Faurlin (knee), winger Matty Phillips (ankle) and strikers Charlie Austin (shoulder) and Andrew Johnson (ankle) remain on the sidelines.
