Westwood to sit out Owls' clash with Middlesbrough

Goalkeeper Keiren Westwood is not expected to return for Sheffield Wednesday's clash with Middlesbrough, but Michael Turner could make his debut.

Republic of Ireland international Westwood has a kidney problem and is unlikely to be back until after the international break.

Turner could come in at the heart of defence after arriving at the club on loan from Norwich this week.

Head coach Carlos Carvalhal is waiting to discover if defender Glenn Loovens will be fit after a foot problem but the Portuguese is confident striker Lucas Joao will be available after a hamstring injury.

Boro head for Hillsborough desperate to improve upon a desperate run of results there, having lost on six of their last seven visits - including the last three without scoring a single goal.

Head coach Aitor Karanka made seven changes for the Capital One Cup second-round victory at Burton in midweek, with one of them handing veteran defender Jonathan Woodgate his first appearance of the season.

He is likely to restore the bulk of those rested to the starting line-up with Dimi Konstantopoulos, Daniel Ayala, Stewart Downing, Adam Clayton, Diego Fabbrini and David Nugent among those hopeful of returning.

Karanka has no fresh injury problems, although Woodgate's reaction to his exertions at the Pirelli Stadium will be monitored, but it remains to be seen if there is a place in the squad for midfielder Albert Adomah after he was left out at Burton amid speculation of a difference of opinion with the Spaniard.
