Wickham poised for Wednesday bow

Sheffield Wednesday could hand a debut to loanee Connor Wickham against Derby following his arrival on a youth loan.

The England Under-21 international joined from Sunderland on Friday to bolster the Owls' attacking options.

However, Reda Johnson has been ruled out of the next two matches.

Johnson is struggling with an on-going ankle problem and played no part in last week's home win over Brighton.

But manager Dave Jones has no new major injury or suspension worries.

Midfielder Jeremy Helan, on loan from Manchester City, started against the Seagulls following his return for a second spell, while striker Leroy Lita, borrowed from Swansea, made his first start for the club in the same match and should also continue.

Defender Joe Mattock, winger Jermaine Johnson and midfielder Rhys McCabe are all pushing for recalls, but may have to settle for a place on the substitutes' bench again as the Owls chase their third straight league victory.M

Derby forward Jamie Ward will be available for selection when they travel to Hillsborough.

Ward withdrew from the Northern Ireland squad this week after tightness in a hamstring forced him off during the latter stages of Derby's 3-0 home win over Huddersfield last Saturday.

However, the 26-year-old, who only last month returned from a three-month absence due to a hamstring strain, will be in Nigel Clough's squad that makes the trip to South Yorkshire.

Elsewhere, Clough confirmed the Rams that were away on international duty this week will be assessed.

Jeff Hendrick, Richard Keogh and Conor Sammon (Republic of Ireland), Theo Robinson (Jamaica), Will Hughes (England Under-21s), Mark O'Brien (Republic of Ireland Under-21s), Kieron Freeman (Wales Under-21s) and Valentin Gjokaj (Albania Under-21s) have all been away with their respective countries.

Teenage striker Mason Bennett will not be available as he is still away with the England Under-17 squad at a tournament in the Algarve.

James O'Connor (knee) is still out but fellow defender Jake Buxton could return to the matchday 18 after resuming full training this week following a lengthy absence with his knee.
