Loovens set for Wednesday stay

Sheffield Wednesday expect to extend Glenn Loovens' short-term contract in time for him to play against Blackpool.

The former Cardiff defender's initial deal, signed at the start of the month, has expired but the Dutchman hopes to resume for the Owls.

Fellow defender Roger Johnson (Wolves) and striker Connor Wickham (Sunderland) are also expected to have their respective loan deals extended in time.

Caretaker-boss Stuart Gray, who has no new injury or suspension problems, hopes to lead Wednesday out of the bottom three in his eighth game in charge, which includes the abandoned game earlier this month against Wigan.

Blackpool have two players suspended as they look to end their recent slump when they visit Hillsborough.

Following a strong start to the season which saw them occupy the Sky Bet Championship summit in September, a dismal December, which brought five defeats and one draw, has seen the Seasiders slide down the table.

Midfielder Chris Basham accrued his fifth yellow card of the season last time out meaning he joins defender Kirk Broadfoot, in the midst of a four-game suspension, on the sidelines.

Full-back Jack Robinson played 90 minutes in Sunday's defeat to Brighton but has sustained a hamstring injury, the same problem which is keeping forward Ricardo Fuller and midfielder Isaiah Osbourne out.
