News report suggestsdefender is struggling

Sheffield Wednesday fans have been dealt a potential blow today with the news that defender Reda Johnson may struggle to play again this season.

The left-back has been talismanic when he has featured for the Owls during this campaign. He is still learning his trade at this level but his wholehearted approach has made him a fans favourite and he has weighed in with some important goals as well.

He has however been in and out of the team with a niggling foot injury and an article published today on the Sky Sports website suggests that the defender fears he may not feature again this season. Johnson is quoted as saying that he would like to be available for first team selection before the end of the current campaign but he is not sure if that will be possible.

However, it is not totally clear when these quotes were made as the article begins by stating that the Benin international has gone to France to try and cure the problem. It was widely reported that he had gone to France around 2 weeks ago when the problem flared up again and reports last week suggested that Johnson may have been close to a return to action in the not too distant future.

Owls fans will hope that he is back in contention sooner rather than later though thankfully Dave Jones has been able to call upon the services of loan player Danny Pugh to fill the left back role and Pugh has contributed to Wednesday’s good run of form of late.
