Purse backs Owls to beat drop

Sheffield Wednesday skipper Darren Purse expects the Owls to beat Crystal Palace on the last day to secure Championship football for another season. Palace drew 1-1 in their final home game against West Brom on Monday night and need a point at Hillsborough on Sunday to beat the drop, while a win for Wednesday will send the Londoners, docked 10 points after going into administration in January, down. Purse told the club's official website: "It's in our hands now. If we win on Saturday we stay in the division. Everybody was down over the weekend. We had our own player of the year do on Sunday evening and the atmosphere wasn't the greatest, everyone was subdued. "But everyone is buzzing now, knowing we can do something about it. If you had given us this situation at Christmas time when we were in the mire I think we would have taken it." Purse, who played for Cardiff at Hillsborough on the final day of last season when the Owls denied his side the point they needed to finish in the play-offs, added: "I wouldn't say it's the biggest game I've played in, but it's definitely up there. The pressure is going to be enormous. "I've said all along over the last few weeks that as long as we're still in with a shout come that last game of the season and we need to win the game then we'll win it, and I've no hesitation in saying that."
