Milan denies interest

Sheffield Wednesday fans may have woken to some worrying news this morning when certain media reports linked Owls chairman Milan Mandaric to a possible takeover of cash-stricken Scottish Premier League giants Glasgow Rangers.

Rangers, who are currently contesting potential tax liabilities of anywhere in the region of £49M to £74M, were deducted 10 points this week after going into administration with HMRC chasing a separate VAT and PAYE charge with £9M outstanding.

With rumours circulating the Wednesday Chairman released a statement which can be viewed on the club’s official website, www.swfc.co.uk. In his statement Mandaric acknowledges that Rangers are a huge football club with great heritage and history but this is something he already has through his leadership of Sheffield Wednesday. The Owls chairman clarifies that he has not had any contact with the Glasgow club and he has no interest in becoming involved with them now or in the future.

Mandaric recently won a drawn out court case having been charged with tax evasion linked to his time in charge of Portsmouth FC and he indicated that he needed to take some time off following the stress that he endured as a result of this.
