Owls suffer injury crisis

Defensive problems on the increase

Despite being yet to pick up a win this season Sheffield Wednesday may well be glad of the two week break at the start of September.

The Owls are experiencing something of a defensive injury crisis with the problems mounting following Saturday's 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough.

Dave Jones was forced to bring in cover for right-back Lewis Buxton who continues to suffer from hamstring problems. Young West Ham defender Jordan Spence has joined the Owls on an emergency loan deal.

Central defender Anthony Gardner was forced off during the first half at the Riverside Stadium with early indications suggesting an achilles injury.

Left-back Reda Johnson has only recently returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines and so the Owls can ill afford any further injury issues.
