Owls start against Shakers in Cup

16 June 2010 13:58
Home draw for Wednesday Sheffield Wednesday have been drawn to face League Two side Bury at home in the first round of Caring Cup. The Shakers will make the trip to Hillsborough in the midweek following the first weekend of the league season, the week commencing August 9th. Bury, managed by former Rotherham boss Alan Knill, lost out in the League Two play-offs in 2008/09 and by the standards they set themselves in that campaign last season was something of a disappointment as they faded away in 2010 to eventually finish in 9th place. The two teams met at the same stage of the League Cup competition back in 2001 when the Owls won 3-1 at Gigg Lane thanks to goals from Ekoku, Maddix and Mclaren. Wednesday beat Rochdale at home at this stage of the Carling Cup last season but were then dumped out at Port Vale in the 2nd round.
