Sheffield Wednesday strikers Leon Clarke and Francis Jeffers are among six players told they no longer feature in manager Alan Irvine's plans. The Owls were relegated to League One for the second time in five years on Sunday and Irvine has released half a dozen first-team players who were out of contract, with Frank Simek, Sean McAllister, Etienne Esajas and Michael Gray all refused new deals. Irvine told the club's official website: "I'm sure that most, if not all of them, will find clubs but I feel we need to take the opportunity to rebuild our squad as we look to achieve promotion at the first time of asking. "This summer gives us the opportunity to introduce the new faces that the squad needs to bounce back. If the fans continue their fantastic backing they've shown since I arrived at the club, we'll be in a very strong position in terms of our squad for next season. "Our recruitment process has already started and I can promise Sheffield Wednesday supporters we'll leave nothing to chance as we look to bring in exactly the right kind of players that will help us gain the promotion we need." Goalkeepers Richard O'Donnell and Arron Jameson, also out of contract, have been offered new two-year deals.
