Owls opt to add more experience in midfield
Ex Swindon man joins Wednesday Sheffield Wednesday have moved early to bolster their squad ahead of the new season by securing the signature of David Prutton. The 29-year-old has signed a two-year contract at Hillsborough, moving on a free transfer. Prutton has a wealth of experience at different levels in England and made 41 league appearances for Swindon Town in League One last season as the Wiltshire based club battled in vain to stave off relegation. Originally from Hull, Prutton started his career at Nottingham Forest, making almost 150 appearances before moving to Southampton and playing more than 80 games for the Saints between 2002 and 2007, most of these in the Premier League. In 2005 he received a 10-match ban for pushing a referee as he protested against his dismissal in a game against Arsenal. Having fallen out of favour at St Mary’s Prutton had a brief stint on loan at Forest in early 2007 before making a summer move to Leeds United. He quickly became a favourite at Elland Road, making 41 league starts in his first season but fell down the pecking order the following season, making just 8 starts. A loan spell at Colchester in January 2010 became a 6-month contract when Leeds released him from his contract and he netted 3 times in 18 games before moving onto Swindon in the summer. Prutton is regarded as a combative midfielder rather than a creative/attacking player as is exemplified by the fact he has never scored more than 4 goals in a season during his professional career.
