Owls on track - Strafford

Sheffield Wednesday chairman Lee Strafford believes the club is better equipped to cope with relegation should they fail to clinch the victory against Crystal Palace needed to secure survival. The Owls, who last suffered relegation to League One in 2003, host their fellow strugglers at Hillsborough on Sunday, but only a win will be good enough to keep Alan Irvine's men in the Coca-Cola Championship for another season. Strafford told Wednesday Player: "I know a lot of Blades are going to rip into me because of this, I've cried three times as a fan, I don't want to cry as a chairman. That's not what we've done all this hard work for. "We have done a lot to rebuild this club off the pitch in the last year. Our opportunity to rebuild on the pitch was always going to be this summer, so this year was always try their best and get through to this summer. "I want to carry on that rebuilding process as a Championship club. We can do it as a League One club, it's not the same situation as last time. When we went into League One last time we were in freefall as a club, all of the infrastructure that supports a strong club had been stripped away, we had no players that we could sell to raise funds and re-invest in the team and that's why we nearly got relegated again into the fourth tier. "It's a different situation now. The driver for me is, it's going to be far easier and far quicker carrying on the rebuilding process as a Championship club."
