Sheffield Wednesday will be looking to put Saturday’s defeat at Exeter behind them when they play 6th placed Stevenage at Hillsborough on Tuesday evening. All of the teams in the top six face each other and the race for promotion could become much clearer by the end of the night. Leaders Charlton could move a step closer to promoiotn if they can beat MK Dons. Defeats for the Dons and Stevenage would make their prospects of automatic promotion seem distant but if either were to win then 2nd place would still be achievable, especially if 3rd and 4th placed Sheffield United andHuddersfield were to draw with each other.
Wednesday will be without Reda Johnson once more on Tuesday as he completes his two-match suspension. Miguel Llera’s fitness will be assessed ahead of the game with fellow centre-back Rob Jones set to replace him if needs be.
A lack of goals from strike pairing Gary Madine and Chris O’ Grady of late means that their places in the starting line up could come under threat. The pair have struggled to form an understanding together and with Madine looking particularly out of sorts Ryan Lowe and Clinton Morrison could come into contention.
Loan signing John Bostock was replaced at half-time at Exeter and could make way for Mike Jones, with the latter being a more natural wide player.
Bostock may be suited to a more central role but that would mean breaking up the defensive midfield partnership of Jose Semedo and David Prutton. Chris Lines could also come into consideration if the Owls chose to go with a less cautious approach.
Stevenage come into the game with much focus are their club seemingly concentrated on the upcoming weekend come game against Spurs and it is unclear whether this will have any affect on the side that they field or their performance.
Wednesday come into the game having lost 2 matches in succession with the defeat at Exeter coming on the back of the cup exit against Blackpool. Despite their recent dip in form they have still only suffered one home defeat in the league this season and a victory will see them retain 2nd place.
Stevenage are yet to play this month due to 2 postponements. Prior to this their form has been as good as any team in the division. They have lost just 1 of their last 19 matches in all competitions and have won 4 of their last 5. They have not lost an away game since October and have only lost 3 of 14 matches on the road in League One this season.
The Owls suffered a crushing 5-1 defeat at Stevenage back in September in what was the first ever competitive meeting of the two teams.
