Wednesday Vs Rotherham: Team news & preview

Sheffield Wednesday host their 2nd South Yorkshire derby of the week on Saturday when Rotherham United make the short trip to Hillsborough.

Wednesday will be without Fernando Forestieri for their final game before Christmas as the forward serves his final game of a 3-match ban. Fellow forward Gary Hooper and winger Will Buckley remain sidelined through injury.

Midfielder Barry Bannan will have his foot injury assessed in the run up to the game while Almen Abdi could return to the squad having stepped up his fitness.

Rotherham could welcome striker Peter Odemwingie back into the team as he has completed a 3-match ban, goalkeeper Lee Camp could return from a knee injury but on loan Chelsea forward Izzy Brown faces a fitness test on a hamstring strain.

The Owls could return to the top 6 in the Championship with a win but with little to separate the top 10 they can ill-afford a slip up with 2 tough away fixtures on the horizon.

Rotherham are bottom of the table but have shown signs of improvement under caretaker manager Paul Warne having beaten QPR and lost narrowly at Fulham in the past week.

The misery that Wednesday need to avoid stems from Rotherham's surprisingly strong record at Hillsborough. The Millers were in a similar sorry position when the visited the Owls last season but they went home with a 1-0 win and they have not lost away to Wednesday since 1981, a run of 6 matches.
