As was widely discussed within Sheffield Wednesday fans’ forums yesterday, Owls manager Gary Megson has clinched his second signing of the week by picking up defender Miguel Angel Llera from Blackpool on an emergency loan deal until January.
The towering centre-half joined the Championship side in the summer but has failed to break into Ian Holloway’s first team plans as yet and has recently spent a successful spell on loan at Brentford. In fact the Spaniard’s stay at Griffin Park was supposed to last until December 7th but he was recalled by Blackpool who immediately completed the short-term deal with the Owls.
The 32-year old featured 11 times for Brentford in the league and was part of an impressive defensive unit. He was sent off once during his spell with the Londoner’s and perhaps tellingly he was suspended when they suffered their biggest defeat of the season, 4-0 at home to Huddersfield.
Llera was an imposing figure at the heart of the Brentford defence when they held the Owls to a 0-0 draw at Hillsborough at the beginning of the month, the only time that Wednesday have failed to score and pick up a victory in the league at home to date this season.
Llera, who moved to England in 2008 and has also played for MK Dons and Charlton during his time in the country, is in line to make his debut in the home game with Leyton Orient on Saturday as Rob Jones is suspended.
