Derby striker Luke Varney has completed a loan move back to Sheffield Wednesday until the end of the season. The 27-year-old has had two previous loan spells at Hillsborough and spent the first half of the current campaign with the Owls. He has scored a total of six goals in 18 starts. Manager Alan Irvine said: "Luke Varney is a player I have admired very much since he started his league career at Crewe. "He has a tremendous work ethic and the right attributes I seek in a player. Luke has already proved himself a very popular player during his two loan spells so far with Sheffield Wednesday and I'm delighted to welcome him back for the rest of the season." Varney has scored a total of 44 goals in 134 league starts throughout his career after starting at non-league Quorn FC before joining Crewe in 2003. He later earned a £2million move to Charlton before being transferred to Pride Park in November 2008, initially on loan. The loan agreement prevents the forward from playing against his parent club at Hillsborough on Saturday March 20.
