Sheffield Wednesday have appointed Stuart Gray as a first team coach today. The 52-year-old links up with Dave Jones, who he worked with previously during his time at Southampton and Wolves.
Gray has a vast array of managerial and coaching experience having worked for a number of clubs including Southampton, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Wolves.
He was manager of Northampton Town for 2 years to 2009 and in January 2010 he became first team coach of Burnley under ex-Owls manager Brian Laws. Gray became caretaker boss of Burnley when Laws lost his job just under a year later. A new manager was appointed within a month and Gray left Turf Moor at the end of the 2010/11 season.
His most recent coaching role came at Portsmouth last season but he lost his job due to financial problems that caused the club to carry out cost cutting measures.
The news of an experienced new coaching appointment will be warmly welcomed by many Wednesday fans who feel that a void wasn’t properly filled when Terry Burton left Hillsborough in the summer to take up a position at Premier League side Arsenal.
