Owls block Swans` flight

Sheffield Wednesday moved out of the relegation zone on goal difference after an absorbing 0-0 draw with high-flying Swansea at the Liberty Stadium. Paulo Sousa's play-off chasers were in the ascendancy in the game's opening and closing stages, but Wednesday contributed fully to a keenly contested encounter. Swansea started the game on the front foot with Wednesday goalkeeper Lee Grant managing to scramble clear David Cotterill`s 25-yard drive while, at the other end, Jermaine Johnson fizzed a volley that was deflected onto the roof of Dorus de Vries' net. After fading towards the end of the first half, the hosts started the second brightly but the end-to-end nature of the contest continued and when Wednesday's Luke Varney engineered some space to flash the ball across Swansea's goal, Leon Clarke was inches away from breaking the deadlock. In the 62nd minute Swansea had the best chance of the game when substitute Cedric Van der Gun whipped in a peach of a cross which Darren Pratley headed over from six yards. The game was stretched in the final half hour but neither side could find a winner.
