Mellor eyeing regular starts

Neil Mellor is hoping his first goal for the club will earn him a call into Sheffield Wednesday's starting line-up - but he is not banking on it. Mellor, on loan from manager Alan Irvine's former club Preston, stepped off the substitutes' bench early in the second half at Colchester on Saturday and fired an 83rd-minute equaliser Mellor said: "As a striker it's important to get your first goal. The longer it goes, the more frustrating it can be but thankfully it's come early in my Sheffield Wednesday career so hopefully that's the first of many. "After my goal I thought we were going to go on and win the game. We had a few half-chances to do that so it was pleasing that we carried on pressing and tried to go for the win. "Everyone wants to start, but there's a very healthy competition for places. We have four very decent strikers at this club, all capable of scoring goals and we'll hopefully all contribute to what will be a successful season. "I obviously want to start games and win games so scoring goals will help."
