Striker named player of the month Sheffield Wednesday striker Neil Mellor has been in fine form as the end of the season approaches and having been named as the clubs Player of the Year earlier in the week he has now netted another award after being named the NPower League One Player of the Month for April. The former Liverpool forward found the net on 6 occasions during the month, taking his tally for the season to 20 goals. Mellor is set to return to his parent club Preston North End after Saturday’s match with Exeter having spent the season on loan at Hillsborough. The Owls are understood to be interested in a permanent move for Mellor and he has intimated that he would be keen to stay on at S6 although his recent form may well have brought him to the attention of clubs further up the league ladder. Wednesday manager Gary Megson was amongst the nominees for the Manager of the Month award but was pipped to the accolade by Southampton boss Nigel Adkins who has guided the Saints to the verge of promotion to the Championship thanks to no less than 7 wins during April.
