Mandaric: I`ll back Irvine

Sheffield Wednesday chairman Milan Mandaric has pledged to offer his full support to manager Alan Irvine during the transfer window as the club chase promotion from League One. Wednesday wrapped up their first signing when Plymouth centre-back Reda Johnson joined for an undisclosed fee but Mandaric insisted more new recruits could soon follow. He told the club's official website: "Reda is an exciting young player with Championship experience and the right credentials to help us achieve our target of promotion. We are working extremely hard to recruit the players that Alan has identified and I will do everything possible to bring these players to the club. My job is to support the manager in the transfer market, which I will continue to do." Mandaric refused to be drawn on specific targets, adding: "Sheffield Wednesday is a big club entering into a new era and it is our intention to deliver promotion this year. Of course, I understand that we will be linked with a lot of players in January because of that. "We are only interested in the players who have the right amount of talent and desire to play for this great club. Everyone involved with Sheffield Wednesday recognises the need for new players because although we have a good squad, it is still only a small squad. We are in the top six right now and it is vital that we build on that position if we are to start next season as a Championship club."
