Makeshift defence pleases Owls boss

First-choice centre-halves Darren Purse, Mark Beevers and Richard Wood - the latter placed on the transfer list last week - were missing through injury and illness in the draw at Bristol City, but Frank Simek, Richard Hinds and Lewis Buxton all impressed in a rejigged back four.[LNB]Laws said: "Frankie was the Frankie Simek of old. Lewis Buxton was exceptional at centre-half and Richard Hinds also did very well."[LNB]American Simek, making his first league start of the season after a serious ankle injury forced him to miss most of the last campaign, returned to right-back.[LNB]Central defender Hinds also made his first start this season alongside Buxton, who switched from right-back, and all three players gave Laws plenty to think about following a campaign so far that has been blighted by a series defensive lapses.[LNB][LNB][LNB]
