Laws haunted by goal king Kev

Phillips had already scored three goals in as many games against Laws' side - two for previous club West Brom last season - and one for the Blues at St Andrews in October before he headed home Scott Sinclair's brilliant 93rd-minute cross to deny Wednesday victory in a 1-1 draw.[LNB]Lewis Buxton had scrambled home his first goal for Wednesday in the 56th minute, but Phillips pounced with the clock ticking down for his 12th goal of the season.[LNB]Laws said: "The game can be so cruel at times. You can't ask for anything more from the players' point of view, they've given everything they can to win the game.[LNB]"In the last few seconds, 92nd minute I think it was, they scored and it has to be that Phillips again, I hate him![LNB]"It's always him. I could have strangled him when he came up the tunnel, but that shows the quality they have in the side, you can't switch off for a second because opportunities will come, no doubt about it.[LNB]"But the last person you want it to fall to, someone so calm and cool in the six-yard box, is Phillips.[LNB]"He's done it to us two or three times and we still haven't learned yet."[LNB]Wednesday appeared set for only their second league win in eight matches, but Laws swallowed his disappointment to praise his players for a rousing second-half performance.[LNB]He added: "It feels like a loss again, particularly with the way we played in the second half.[LNB]"It was one-way traffic and I'm sure they'll never have been so stretched in their lives. We've had them on the back foot on many, many occasions, Jermaine Johnson in particular was a major thorn in their side.[LNB]"From that point of view it was very pleasing, but soul-destroying in the end.[LNB]"But if we're feeling disappointed and dejected against a team looking to be in that top two when they've spent all that money, then that's a major plus, not a negative."[LNB]Blues manager Alex McLeish was convinced his side were well worth their point and hailed his players' never-say-die attitude.[LNB]McLeish said: "If anyone thinks we didn't deserve that then they need their head examining.[LNB]"I was disappointed to go behind because up to then we were the better side.[LNB]"They were dangerous of course with Johnson on very good form, (Marcus) Tudgay is a clever player and big Leon (Clarke) up front - they're a handful.[LNB]"But I felt we dominated proceedings, first half especially, but when you don't score goals, you're not going to win games."[LNB]The draw leaves City with just two wins in their last eight Championship matches, but they remain three points behind second-placed Reading.[LNB]McLeish was full of praise for striker Phillips, who pounced for his 12th goal of the season.[LNB]McLeish added: "He was the man you wanted on the end of it because there were two or three at the back post there.[LNB]"David Murphy got forward, Scott produced a superb cross and Kevin's the one you want there.[LNB]"We were wondering about taking him off, but you've got to leave him until the end.[LNB]"He's the man with the nose for goal. Thank goodness we made the correct decision."[LNB][LNB]
