Defender returns on a permanent deal Sheffield Wednesday have today secured the services of central defender Rob Jones on a two-year contract. Jones moves to Hillsborough on a free transfer, bringing to an end a two-year spell at Scunthorpe United. The fact that Gary Megson has moved to bring Jones back to the club will come as little to surprise to Owls followers. The 31-year-old joined Wednesday on loan towards the back end of last season at a time when the defence were leaking goals left, right and centre. His experience and defensive awareness helped to shore things up somewhat, making 8 appearances and scoring 1 goal as the Owls form improved. Jones joined Scunthorpe in 2009 for what was then a club record fee but his time at the club was hindered by a series of injuries. Having played for Stockport and Grimsby Jones moved to Hibernian in 2006 and made more 100 appearances for the Scottish Premier League club, captaining them to League Cup glory in 2007.
