Irvine: We had to win ugly

Alan Irvine revealed the Sheffield Wednesday dressing room was like a morgue after his side's 1-0 win over Leyton Orient but insisted: "Nobody gets promotion without having to win ugly." Lewis Buxton's goal early in the second half gave the Owls a victory they scarcely deserved to extend their unbeaten run to four games. The goal came when Gary Teale's 52nd-minute corner was met by Buxton at the far post with a firm downward header. Yet Owls boss Irvine admitted: "It was strange because the dressing-room was like a morgue after the game. The players know they didn't play as well as they can do. "You want to win in style but I'd take a lot more like that if we can achieve what we want to achieve. Nobody gets promotion without having to win ugly. "It doesn't matter if you're Barcelona or Manchester United or anyone else, sometimes you have to grind out results."
