Irvine: Things can only get better

Sheffield Wednesday boss Alan Irvine watched his side destroy Bristol Rovers 6-2 but insisted they can get better. The Milan Mandaric era began with a bang as four goals in 23 first-half minutes sank the Pirates. Will Hoskins headed Rovers in front but Chris Sedgwick, Tommy Miller, Gary Teale and Jermaine Johnson put Wednesday in control. Hoskins struck again, but substitutes James O'Connor and Paul Heffernan replied for Wednesday. Irvine said: "It can get better. Some of our play going forward was terrific but some of our defending wasn't what it needs to be. "There were things we didn't feel we did well enough in defence - we were a bit ragged at the back at times. "I was astonished that Clinton Morrison didn't score one of our six goals - and he is wondering how he didn't get a hat-trick. But he was terrific in his overall play."
