Irvine sets points target

Sheffield Wednesday manager Alan Irvine has set his side a points target of 53 to stave off the threat of relegation. Irvine has been nominated for the Championship's Manager of the Month award for January after four wins from his first five matches. That impressive sequence of results propelled Wednesday out of the relegation zone and they currently lie on 31 points. Irvine said: "We have got 12 points out of a possible 15 but if you look at the table it still doesn't look all that comfortable. "We need an awful lot more points to make sure we remain a Championship team next season and until we get them the focus will be on reaching the target of 53 points. "I'm delighted to get four wins out of five, but we're all going to have to do it over and again between now and the end of the season."
