Irvine remaining positive

Sheffield Wednesday manager Alan Irvine will not let Sunday's defeat at Brentford deflect from his side's impressive start to the campaign. The Owls lost for the first time in npower League One this season when Charlie MacDonald's goal just before half-time put paid to their unbeaten run and secured Brentford their opening win. Irvine said: "If I'd have been offered top of the league after five games I would have taken it. "I was obviously hoping we'd get something, but we haven't done. "But we can't let this defeat suggest that we've had a terrible start to the season because we haven't." Wednesday face second-placed Carlisle at Hillsborough next Saturday in a top-of-the-table clash and Irvine added: "It's vitally important that we respond in the right way. We can't let this result affect us, we have to bounce back."
