Irvine relishing Boxing Day match

Sheffield Wednesday's Boxing Day clash at Tranmere cannot come soon enough for manager Alan Irvine. Irvine was left furious with his players on Saturday after they capitulated during the second half of their clash at Exeter to miss out on going top of npower League One. Irvine said: "It's frustrating because we had a fantastic opportunity to build on what we did last week. "We've been in good form for some considerable time now and had a chance to go top of the league, but we didn't do it. "The second-half performance after the second goal was unacceptable. The players are very disappointed with how they performed and the sooner the Tranmere game comes around, and we have the chance to do something about it, the better."
