Irvine players to ignore boos

Sheffield Wednesday boss Alan Irvine has told his players to ignore the boo-boys following the 1-0 defeat in Saturday's top-of-the-table clash against Carlisle. The Owls went into the game as League One leaders but dropped down to sixth following the loss at Hillsborough. The home crowd then proceeded to boo the Wednesday players off after they slumped to a second successive 1-0 defeat. However, boss Irvine told the Sheffield Star: "You've got to be above that as a player. Things that happen off the pitch shouldn't have a bearing on what happens on the pitch so I don't want to use that as an excuse. "We started the game perfectly well and had a lot of possession in the second half. But we didn't have the right quality in the final third in terms of the final pass, cross, finish or decision."
