Irvine must sell before buying

Sheffield Wednesday manager Alan Irvine is under no pressure to sell but admitted he must offload some players if he wants to bring new ones in. Irvine, preparing for his first game in charge of the Owls at local rivals Barnsley on Saturday, has yet to receive offers for any of his players during the transfer window. The former Preston boss said: "There is no pressure on me to sell because we have no offers at the moment. But obviously, if any offers come in that are regarded as too good to turn down, then that pressure might come on me. "I certainly can't think about bringing any players in without players going out. But I came here thinking that I would work with the squad that was here and hopefully we will get good results with that squad. "I believe it's a good enough squad to win games, but only with a lot of hard work." Meanwhile, Irvine has confirmed he has no plans to bring Luke Varney back to Hillsborough following the striker's return to parent club Derby.
