Irvine looking at Sodje

Sheffield Wednesday manager Alan Irvine is pondering whether to offer Sam Sodje a short-term deal at Hillsborough. Irvine is short on central defenders following injury to Mark Beevers, ruled out for up to eight weeks with ankle ligament damage, and Sodje, brother of former Owls striker Akpo, has been on trial with the club. Sodje, 31, has been a free agent since his release from Charlton at the end of last season, but Wednesday are currently unable to bring in new players due to an automatic Football League transfer embargo, triggered by an unpaid tax bill. The Owls are hoping to settle their tax debts to get the latest transfer embargo lifted when they receive an advance of £2million pledged by an overseas oil company who want to invest in the club.
