Irvine left to rue Potter dismissal

Sheffield Wednesday manager Alan Irvine could not hide his frustration after going down to a 5-3 defeat at Peterborough. The Owls were in control and leading 3-2 with 21 minutes remaining thanks to Jermaine Johnson, Gary Madine and Chris Sedgwick strikes before Darren Potter was sent off, leading the Owls to ship three goals to see their winless run extended to six matches. Irvine said: "I felt very comfortable at 3-2 up and Peterborough had to change their way of playing because we were being so effective. I felt we could give Peterborough problems in wide areas and we did that for much of the game. "The sending off was a huge moment and I wasn't surprised it was a red card even though another referee might have looked at the situation and seen a covering defender. "It is difficult to know how the game would have finished if we had kept 11 men on the pitch, but regardless of that we shouldn`t have lost three goals even after going down to 10 men. "The manner of our defending was very disappointing for all five of the goals as we contributed to our own downfall. Now it is a case of continuing to work hard on the training ground to try and turn the run of results around."
