Irvine left to rue missed chances

Alan Irvine felt his Sheffield Wednesday side were made to pay for not taking their opportunities as they went down 1-0 at Charlton. Scott Wagstaff fired the Addicks into the top six with the game`s only goal midway through the first half, finding the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area after seeing his first attempt blocked. The result ended the Owls` six-match unbeaten run and saw them slip just below their heavyweight promotion rivals. Irvine said: 2I thought we had enough of the game and enough chances to have got something out of it but obviously we didn't take those chances. "I felt as if we started the game quite well on the front foot but then lost our way a little and gave Charlton a bit of momentum. They certainly had the lion's share of the play but we then finished the half well and really at that time would have liked the half to have continued. "You are looking for a response again in the second half and although we didn't start the second half brilliantly, we got more and more into it as the game went on and I felt we had some decent chances."
