Sheffield Wednesday manager Alan Irvine has won the npower League One Manager of the Month award for August. Irvine has steered his side to the top of the table after five games, with three wins, a draw and one defeat, which included a 5-0 win at Hartlepool, following the club's relegation in May. Chairman of the npower Manager of the Month awards panel Alan Curbishley said: "Alan Irvine deserves special praise for the way he has galvanised Sheffield Wednesday after the disappointment of relegation last season. "Alan has got the whole side performing well, with nine goals scored and just one conceded throughout August." Irvine beat off competition from Peterborough's Gary Johnson, Carlisle manager Greg Abbott and Oldham's Paul Dickov to win the inaugural trophy.
