Irvine keeping fingers crossed over new faces

Sheffield Wednesday manager Alan Irvine hopes to "be able to make announcements soon" with regards to further new arrivals at Hillsborough. The Owls boss has completed his first summer signing with the capture of midfielder Chris Sedgwick on a free transfer from former club Preston and has now turned his attention towards several other targets. Irvine told the club's official website: "There are things that could slot into place, but you never quite know nowadays. "There are an awful lot of people involved in any transfer that you try and do, whether that's on a free transfer or paying a fee, so it's too early to say. "The signs are encouraging though and hopefully we'll be able to talk about other players in the not-too-distant future." Irvine added: "We're close, but you can't count your chickens because anything can happen. At this stage I can't say 100% that there will be other players coming in over the next few days, but I'm certainly hopeful that we'll be able to make announcements soon."
