Irvine holds hands up

Alan Irvine conceded his Sheffield Wednesday side had been second best after the 2-0 defeat against Doncaster. Elliott Ward marked his debut for Doncaster with a stunning bicycle kick that went in off the underside of the bar after 39 minutes before James O'Connor's second-half own-goal put the result beyond doubt. Irvine said: "The better team won the game, they deserved to win. We had a couple of big moments obviously, early in the game we hit the post twice at 0-0 and they were good chances." He added: "We need to pass the ball better, we didn't pass it so well. We worked hard, you know you're going to have to do that against Doncaster with the way they play. "They get an extra man in the middle of the park quite often and they move the ball around well. "It's important that when you do get possession you use that well but we didn't do that in this particular game."
