Irvine happy with squad strength

Sheffield Wednesday manager Alan Irvine believes increased competition for places is behind his side's improved performances in their last two matches. The Owls boss has Marcus Tudgay, Luke Varney, Leon Clarke and Francis Jeffers all vying for starting places up front, plenty of options in midfield, with Tom Soares, Michael Gray and Sean McAllister on the bench at West Brom in midweek and only Lewis Buxton (hamstring) currently sidelined through injury. Irvine said: "I don't think there's any coincidence that we have had more options to choose from in the last couple of games and we have seen two good performances. "It's what every manager wants. We only have one player not fit at the moment and that's great news for us."
