Irvine fury at Owls display

Sheffield Wednesday manager Alan Irvine admitted he was "as angry and upset as the fans" after seeing his side lose 2-0 at home to Huddersfield and fall further behind their promotion rivals. First-half goals from Graham Carey and Anthony Pilkington were enough to ease Town to a comfortable win at Hillsborough, while Wednesday have slipped to 10th following successive defeats. Irvine said: "We didn't play well. We were second best in the first-half and although we were a little better in the second-half, we didn't take our chances when we got them. "There was a bit of a response to the talk at half-time, but we were facing an uphill battle. We were lacking quality in the final third. "I'm as angry and upset as our fans are about the performance and the result. We've spent a lot of time talking after the match and a lot of questions were asked. I hope they come up with the answers in our next match." Wednesday face a tricky first-round FA Cup tie at Southport on Sunday and Irvine added: "It's been a difficult looking match since the draw was made. The fact that the TV cameras are going to be there tells you that they see it as a potential upset."
