Irvine: Defeat a big disappointment

Alan Irvine expressed his frustration after his Sheffield Wednesday side slipped to defeat at home to Carlisle. Craig Curran's first-half strike secured a first win at Hillsborough for the Cumbrians and knocked the Owls off the top of the League One table. A disgruntled Irvine said: "It's a big disappointment, there's no doubt about that. I thought we started the game well but then we got careless. From being very dominant, we allowed Carlisle back into the game. "It was during that period that they scored. We responded, but without really looking like we were going to score, for all the play that we had." The Owls have endured a traumatic week and only avoided the prospect of administration on Wednesday when the Co-Operative Bank came to the club's rescue. But Irvine added: "I certainly don't want to use our off-the-field problems as an excuse because it's important that we get on with our jobs and that's what we've tried to do."
