Grant backs Owls to avoid drop

Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Lee Grant believes the Owls can escape relegation and survive another season in the Championship. Since winning promotion via the play-offs in 2005 the Owls have fought successful relegation battles in three of the following five seasons. But Grant is convinced Alan Irvine's side can match closest rivals Crystal Palace's result when they play at Cardiff on Saturday and then beat the Londoners in a winner-takes-all clash at Hillsborough on the last day of the season. Grant told the club's official website: "The situation has been apparent for the last few weeks and it's been a long battle to stay up this season in all honesty. "Everybody now understands the situation we are in and the gravity, but we have got the characters that can drag us out of it and hopefully we can do that on Saturday and the following Sunday. "Our fans will help the lads get up for the final game and make it an even bigger occasion. It will make it hard for the away team to come to Hillsborough and play in front of a hostile crowd and a packed stadium."
