Sheffield Wednesday have been dealt a blow to their League One promotion push with the news that top scorer Gary Madine will have to sit out the next six weeks of action due to a broken toe.
Madine has been influential in the Owls progress to date this season and there is no hiding the fact that his presence will be a loss to the team over the next month or so.
That said, Gary Megson’s side have coped fairly well in recent games without him and the manager will be hoping that the other strikers at the club will take the chance to shine in his absence.
Ryan Lowe suffered an injury on his Owls debut but has returned recently to score important goals in the away wins at Wycombe and Tranmere and he is likely to get the opportunity to start alongside Chris O’Grady whose strength and hold up play has been a real asset to the team.
With Clinton Morrison the only other recognised striker in the Wednesday squad Megson has been looking at the possibility of adding an extra attacking player to the ranks to make up for the loss of his top scorer and if this is to happen then a deal will need to be done soon as the deadline for emergency loan signings comes into force on Thursday.
