Madine makes shortlist

SheffieldWednesday striker Gary Madine is amongst the contenders for the npower League One Player of the Month award for September. After a slow start to the campaign Madine has been on fire of late, scoring 9 goals in 11 games with 6 of those goals coming during the past month.

The formerCarlislefront-man won Wednesday’s player of the month award for September, receiving of three quarters of the votes cast in the process and is amongst the top scorers in the country.

The winner will be announced later in the week and Madine faces competition from some familiar names for the accolade. Neil Mellor, Wednesday’s top scorer last season, is amongst the nominees having found his form at Preston as is another former Wednesday striker, Leon Clarke, who has been finding the net forChesterfieldsince joining them on loan fromSwindon.

Hartlepoolgoalkeeper Scott Flinders is also in contention after helping the north-east club go unbeaten during the month.
